Police in Newark are investigating a stabbing incident that was reported in the city's South Ward overnight.
According to preliminary reports, officials at University Hospital contacted police when an unidentified male entered the emergency room suffering a severe stab wound just before 1:25 a.m.
Units arrived at the hospital and were told by the victim that the incident happened in the area of Madison Avenue and South 13th Street.
Police searched the area for a crime scene and a potential suspect, but no arrests were reported.
The motive for the stabbing has not been determined.
