Church officials said police took a man into custody and charged him with burglarizing a house of worship in Newark during the overnight of Thursday into Friday.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect unlawfully entered the Allen AME Church from the back lot and alley then stole the sanctuary’s soundboard and other items before fleeing the scene.
Officials say police caught up with the unidentified suspect then placed him into custody.
An adjacent church was not burglarized, according to officials.
The incident remains under investigation.
