NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a pedestrian strike that left a person dead on a NJ Highway late Saturday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, State Troopers were notified of a person down on the Garde State Parkway near exit 89A in Toms River just before 11:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found an unidentified person in the center lanes suffering severe injuries after a car struck them at that location.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not immediately clear if the driver of the car stayed at the location.
Officers closed several lanes on the highway for the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
