Plainfield resident Mr. Marvin Fuentes Guzman has been arrested and charged with being responsible for a fatal stabbing that took place overnight, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Plainfield Police Director Lisa Burgess jointly announced Friday.
Union County authorities said in a statement Guzman, 29, is charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter and two related weapons offenses.
According to officials, shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday morning, members of the Plainfield Police Division were dispatched to the 200 block of East Front Street and found the adult male victim unresponsive at that location, having sustained serious injury, according to the preliminary investigation.
Police say he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his immediate family.
Guzman was lodged in the Union County Jail pending a first appearance and detention hearing to take place in Union County Superior Court.
This investigation has been led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Plainfield Police Division and the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
