Two shootings that left one man dead and two others injured in Plainfield last night are under active investigation, acting Union County officials announced on Tuesday.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Monday, August 31, members of the Plainfield Police Division responded to the 200 block of Pond Place and found a 23-year-old male at that location, having sustained a serious injury, according to the preliminary investigation. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
Several minutes later, officers responded to the area of New and West 4th streets, where they encountered a 26-year-old male and a 37-year-old male who had also been shot.
The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of his immediate family.
The two surviving victims were both transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where they underwent treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The investigation into these shootings is being led by the Union County Homicide Task Force and assisted by members of the Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
