A woman who returned home from an event early Saturday morning thought that her Newark apartment was burglarized after finding a mirror shattered in pieces all over her bed and in an area where she would usually sit and style her hair daily.
After a brief investigation, the woman immediately found a large hole through layers of the wall's sheetrock resulting from gunfire from a neighbors apartment.
After dialing 911, police officers rushed to 60 Nevada Street around 1:30 a.m. to investigate the woman's report of possible shots fired.
When the officer's arrived, they secured a crime scene inside the next-door apartment where they reportedly found several weapons inside.
Police say the newly built apartment building sits just at the border of the city's East and Central wards.
Police would not say what prompted the man to fire his weapon or if the suspect is a city police officer who was cleaning one of his weapons before it fired through the wall of his apartment.
According to the woman -who is several months pregnant and has a young son- she is usually home during that time but was invited to an event.
Several police officers stayed more than 5-hours guarding the residence but would only say that the suspect possessed several weapons.
No name or identity of the suspect has been released at this time.
