There were non-fatal injuries reported for a child struck by a car in Newark's Central Ward Friday night.
Police say it happened around 9 p.m. in the 20's block of University Avenue, where an off-duty police officer assisted the 11-year-old boy after a vehicle struck him then drove away from the scene.
The conscious and alert child was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
Police as, a female drive, operating a gray four-door sedan -possibly a Hyundai- fled the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
