Investigators for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office were on the scene of a pedestrian strike that caused fatal injuries to one person in Newark on Sunday.
According to police, the early morning incident happened in the area of McCarter Highway at 4th Avenue, just before 12:10 a.m.
Police say the unidentified pedestrian entered the busy roadway and was struck by a car at high speed.
According to authorities, emergency responders arrived and transported the victim to University Hospital, where doctors pronounced the person dead a short time later.
Police say the active and ongoing investigation into the incident is in its early stages.
There were no other injuries reported.
