An early evening rainstorm system brought traffic to a standstill in parts of the downtown Newark area on Tuesday evening.
Officials said, at one point, the commute time from entering or leaving Newark on McCarter Highway or Broad Street was approximately 25 minutes after the fast storm dumped about two inches of rain near Miller Street around 4:20 p.m.
According to AccuWeather, today's weather will show partly sunny skies and humid with pop-up showers or thunderstorms happening this evening. A heat advisory has been put into place as temperatures are expected to reach about 90 degrees.
Forecasters say these heavy storms could cause severe flooding in low-lying areas in Northern NJ.
