The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in an investigation into an incident where multiple firefighters suffered injuries in a HazMat situation early Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, firefighters were called to the basement of 161 Illinois Avenue, where the bomb squad was notified after as many as four firefighters were exposed to an unknown type of chemical while crews attempted to battle the small blaze.
Officials say the firefighters were transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation is active and ongoing. County officials have not released additional information at this time.
