Police in Newark are reporting that Mr. Zamir Dickerson, 18, of Newark and a 17-year-old juvenile from Hillside have been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of an 18-year-old Newark man on July 24.
Police say officers from the 5th precinct responded to a call of shots fired around 9 p.m. in the 800 block of South 16 Street.
After the shooting, the officers saw the juvenile run from them when they spotted him on South 19th Street near Avon Avenue.
Police say the teen tossed a gun, which was later recovered, into a backyard and jumped into an Acura driven by Dickerson.
The suspects fled in the Acura to elude police and crashed into two vehicles at Clinton Place and St. James Place.
Police say Dickerson ran from the vehicle, but he was arrested moments later on Aldine Street.
The 17-year-old juvenile also fled on foot and was arrested today.
Dickerson was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and eluding.
The juvenile was also charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, unlawful possession of a handgun, and resisting arrest.
The victim , Mr. Sincere Cureton, 18, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
