Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today that Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder of Mr. Laquan Nowlin, 32, of East Orange.
Officials said on July 3, Nowlin was sitting in his vehicle at the intersection of Lanark and Sanford Avenue when he was fatally shot by one actor who exited the passenger seat of a dark colored sedan.
The suspect returned to the passenger seat and the vehicle fled southbound on Sanford Avenue from the murder scene.
Nowlin worked at the Juvenile Detention facility but so far there is no evidence that the shooting was related to his employment. The investigation is active and ongoing.
