Federal and local police are on the scene of a shooting that occurred in a section of Paterson.
According to police, at approximately 6:40 a.m., gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 146 Hamilton Street.
Police say at least one person was found shot at that location.
Authorities are keeping EMS and police at a distance as the incident is being called an ’active shooter ’ situation.
The circumstances behind what caused the shooting are under investigation.
The suspect is reportedly barricaded inside a building.
There are no immediate reports of injured officers at this time.
**UPDATE 7:40 a.m.**: Suspect is wanted for homicide out of NYC. There was an exchange of gunfire between authorities and the suspect.
