Police in Elizabeth are investigating a shooting that injured a child in a section of the city Friday night.
According to police, at approximately 11:40 p.m., gunfire rang out at the Mravlag Manor Housing complex located in the 600 block of Maple Avenue.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found a girl -around the age of 4-years-old suffering a bullet wound in her leg at that location.
The conscious and alert girl was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment and is expected to recover.
According to a preliminary investigation, the child was walking with her father at the development when suspects occupying a light-colored or silver truck pulled up and began to fire in the pair's direction, then sped away.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the driver is at-large.
Police have not immediately reported who was the intended target of the shooting.
