Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reminds the public to report illegal use of fireworks as we approach this year's Fourth of July holiday season.

**Illegal fireworks include:**

- Firecrackers, skyrockets, bottle rockets, Roman candles, etc.

- Any substance or combination of substances or articles prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration, or detonation.

Individuals under age 16 are prohibited from purchasing or possessing any type of fireworks.

Those 16 years or older may purchase hand-held sparklers, ground-based sparklers and novelty party poppers and snappers in retail stores.

Residents around the city have complained about individuals exploding fireworks in neighborhoods throughout the evening and early in the morning hours.
