The Essex County Prosector's Office has taken the lead in a stabbing that left a man dead in Irvington Township overnight.
According to police, the early morning stabbing incident happened at approximately 2:45 a.m. in the 30's block of 40th Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that in an apparent domestic incident, a male suspect stabbed his 29-year-old boyfriend then stabbed a female before fleeing the scene.
Police officials say they found the heavily bleeding, unconscious and unresponsive patient after a call reporting an assault in progress.
Police said the unidentified female was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Doctors pronounced the man dead a short time later.
Irvington officials said the incident was isolated and the community was not in danger.
The motive for the stabbing is under investigation and the suspect remains at-large.
