Passaic County announced that based upon an investigation conducted by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Samar Clyburn, 21, and Nygee Dennis, 22, were arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place June 9, in the area of Belmont Avenue.
Police say Clyburn is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence, Fourth Degree. Nygee Dennis is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree.
According to police, at approximately 8:20 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson after Dennis arrived in the emergency room seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his leg.
I Based on an investigation, detectives determined that Samar Clyburn and another man were seated inside a motor vehicle in the area of Belmont Avenue.
Police say as Dennis attempted to enter the vehicle, a handgun in his possession discharged, striking him in the leg.
After the shooting, Samar Clyburn assisted with removing the weapon from the crime scene.
The handgun was not recovered police said.
