An elderly man was violently assaulted in a section of Newark's North Ward on Friday night, according to police.
Around 11:55 p.m., police were called to the vicinity of Roseville and Bloomfield avenues to investigate reports of an injured person.
Upon arrival, police found the elderly man -around 88-years-old suffering a serious head injury after two victims struck the victim in the head with a blunt force object, according to police.
Police say the conscious victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment and remain in an unspecified condition.
Authorities are looking for three males -possibly Hispanic- who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The motive for the incident is under investigation.
