The New Jersey State Police have arrested Mr. Charles Goodema, 41, of Mount Laurel, Ms. Megan Winters, 27, of Avenel and Mr. Mark McCarrie, 34, of Logan for DWI and various drug offenses when troopers discovered they abandoned their vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Police say on Tuesday, May 26, at 8:27 p.m., Trooper Kyle Morley was on patrol on the New Jersey Turnpike in Westampton Township, Burlington County.
While traveling north, Tpr. Morley observed a man and woman walking away from a Chrysler Sebring south in the area of milepost 40.7.
When Tpr. Morley arrived, he discovered the man and woman walked into the wooded area and abandoned their vehicle.
A short time later, members of the Mount Laurel Police Department located Goodema and Winters at a gas station on Creek Road in Mount Laurel Township.
During the investigation, Goodema and Winters were found to be possession of CDS and prescription legend drugs and were arrested without incident. While conducting an investigation at the abandoned Sebring, troopers discovered CDS and drug paraphernalia.
A short time later, troopers were dispatched to the report of an accident involving a struck pedestrian south at milepost 40.5. When troopers arrived, they discovered Mark McCarrie was struck by a tractor trailer and sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
While speaking with McCarrie, troopers discovered he was the driver of the abandoned Sebring. Troopers determined he was under the influence and was arrested for DWI. He was transported via ambulance to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital.
Charles Goodema, Megan Winters, and Mark McCarrie were charged with possession of CDS, possession of prescription legend drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. McCarrie was also charged with DWI.
They were released pending a future court date.
Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
