The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating a homicide that occurred in Trenton early Monday morning.
Trenton police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation for a shooting in the first block of Oakland Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the kitchen of his residence with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officials say the victim, identified as Tayvion Jones, 18, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Police were able to quickly identify a suspect in the shooting, and he was stopped and taken into custody nearby.
His name is not being released at this time as charges have not been filed yet.

A second shooting homicide is also under investigation this morning.
Police responded to a shooting in progress in the area of Daymond Street just before 9 a.m. (This is the same area as Saturday night’s homicide.)
Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. he was identified as 44-year-old Antwuan Bowens of Trenton.
