North Hudson Regional Fire Saves Deer Trapped in Hudson River Near Drainage Pipe

Weehawken

WEEHAWKEN, NJ -- The North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue along with the North Hudson Humane Society rescued a deer that had become trapped in the Hudson River near Weehawken.

According to officials, firefighters received a call at approximately 12:20pm on Wednesday that a deer had been caught near a drainage pipe, at which time they responded with their Marine 2 boat.

“Wednesday afternoon, our firefighters responded to a report that a deer had been caught near a drainage pipe and were quickly dispatched to save the deer,” said NHRFR Chief Frank Montagne.

“The deer first had to be set free before our team could snare the animal and take it back to land.

I want to thank our firefighters as well as the North Hudson Humane society and Weehawken Police Department for acting quickly and saving the life of the deer.”

After being brought back to land, the animal was exhausted and needed time to regain its strength and energy.

Officials say at that time, the Weehawken Police Department assisted Regional firefighters in bringing the deer to a wooded area in Weehawken where it was released back to the wild.
