NJ State police officials are looking into the cause of an I-78 collision that sent about four people to the hospital in Hunterdon County early Sunday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the multi-car collision happened at around 1:50 am in the eastbound lanes of I-78 at exit 12.
Reports say three cars were involved in the violent crash the had victims trapped in one vehicle and at least one person ejected from another.
The critically injured victims were airlifted to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.
Traffic officials at NJ-511 posted the following "As of 4:19 am, there's a crash investigation on I-78 westbound East of Exit 12 - CR 635/Perryville Road in Union Twp. All lanes closed and detoured.
The NJ State Police will handle the investigation.
