The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office was called to the scene to assist in an investigation of a collision that caused severe injuries overnight in Jersey City.
According to the preliminary investigation, police were called to a crash scene that occurred on NJ-139 near Palisades Avenue just before 12:35 a.m.
While investigating the collision on the roadway, police say a car sped through the crash scene and collided with one of the cars.
The impact caused one of the vehicles to overturn according to reports.
Police would only confirm at least one severely injured person at that location.
NJ-139 and other roads around the Holland Tunnel were closed for the extended investigation while authorities work to find the cause of the crash.
UPDATE 6am: The HCPO Regional Crash Investigation Unit is responding to a serious motor vehicle crash on Rte. 139 (depressed rdwy) w/multiple injuries including a Port Authority Officer struck while responding to a prior crash. Port Authority officials confirmed a woman was arrested by JCPD.
The injured officer was assisting JCPD with a crash scene and is hospitalized.
Drivers to avoid area as investigation underway.
