Emergency responders are on the scene of a train strike that caused fatal injuries to a pedestrian this evening in Newark.
According to NJ Transit officials, Raritan Valley train #5532, which was expected to arrive at 8:15 p.m. to Newark Penn Station, is holding on the Conrail tracks inside Weequahic Park after striking the pedestrian.
The severely injured person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have a portion of Route 22 West closed for the recovery operation at the time.
