Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that Mr. Leonard J. Melvin, 31, of Newark has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter for the beating death of Eddie Feliciano, 60, of Newark.
According to authorities, on March 25, Feliciano was assaulted in the 300 block of West Market Street in Newark at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Police say he died from his injuries on April 8, at 6:20 pm. at University Hospital.
On Thursday, police arrested Melvin and charged him with aggravated manslaughter.
The investigation is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
