Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a shooting that killed a male at a housing complex in Newark’s South Ward Sunday evening.
According to police, sometime around 6:15 p.m., gunfire rang out in the 700 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue sending several units to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police immediately taped off a section of the housing complex's courtyard after they found the lifeless body of a male lying on the ground shot at that location.
The suspect reportedly approached the victim then began to fire several shots before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
