According to police, on Monday, April 6, just before 6:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Myrtle Avenue in Jersey City.
Responding officers found the victim, a 23-year-old Jersey City male, later identified as Javone Smith, with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 6:49 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case.
No arrests have been made at this time.
