Essex County authorities have taken over the investigation into a shooting that has a resident of Orange severely injured at a Jersey City Hospital.
According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 60 Park Street in Orange just after 8 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they canvassed the area then located shell casings in the 100 block of Ward Street, but no victims were found according to reports.
A short time later, Jersey City Police contacted authorities in the region after a male victim -suffering a severe bullet wound in his face- was transferred from Christ Hospital to Jersey City Medical Center due to the severity of his injury.
Police said the victim is an Orange resident who was reportedly transported by private vehicle to the hospital.
The condition of the victim has been reported as life-threatening and the motive behind the shooting is under investigation.
