Irvington Township Police assisted in a shooting that occurred on the Newark side of the border on Monday afternoon.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 952 18th Avenue near West end at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Police say a gunman fired several rounds at unknown targets then fled the scene.
Authoritities checked hospitals in the region for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but there were no reports of injuries.
According to police, the shooting marks the third shots fired incident in a week in the immediate area. One of last week's shootings resulted in a fatality police said.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
