There is an active search for a suspect wanted for a shots-fired incident that occurred in Newark's Upper West Ward on Friday evening.
According to police, at approximately 2:55 p.m., a gunman arrived in the vicinity of 18th Avenue and Alexander Street then began to fire multiple shots in the area while pedestrian and residents -out for a walk in the community- scrambled for cover.
Fast responding Newark Police officers arrived at the scene and taped off the area after finding multiple shell casings, but after a search of the neighborhood, no victims were located.
Investigators are attempting to determine if the shooting is connected to a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, where shooters pulled up in the area and began shooting at several males who were gathered on the street.
According to a statement released by The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, at approximately 4:41 p.m., Mr. Jumar T. Miranda, 22, of Newark was shot along with two other males in the 900 block of 18th Avenue.
County officials said Mr. Miranda died a short time later and the suspect wanted for the shooting remains at-large.
Property damage was reported in Friday's shooting.
