The fatal shooting of a Middlesex County man in Elizabeth early this morning is under active investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Monday.
The victim has been identified as Zakee Cooper, 36, of Perth Amboy.
Police say at approximately 2 a.m., Elizabeth Police Department patrol units responded to the 1000 block of North Broad Street, according to the preliminary investigation.
According to police, at that location, officers found Cooper, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was subsequently pronounced dead.
This matter remains under active joint investigation by the Homicide Task Force of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
