Dr. Marion Bolden, after a distinguished nine-year tenure as Superintendent of Newark Public Schools, has continued to make a profound impact on education and the community.
Beginning her career as a mathematics teacher at Barringer High School, she went on to hold several key administrative positions.
In her commitment to preserving the rich history of the Newark Public Schools, Dr. Bolden founded the Newark Public Schools Historical Preservation Committee upon her retirement.
This initiative by Museum Partners Consulting, LLC (MPC) has seen her save invaluable artifacts from being discarded - from ledgers and murals to board meeting minutes, old technology, doorknobs, class photos, programs, and medals.
Dr. Bolden's dedication to Newark extends beyond administration. The Newark Public Schools Marion A. Bolden Student Center, located in the North Ward opposite Technology High School, was founded during her tenure.
This three-floor center, overseen by The Office of Expanded Learning, offered a wealth of workshops, events, and social opportunities for students at one point.
Her lasting contribution to Newark's educational landscape and community has touched thousands, leaving an enduring mark that will be felt for decades.
