Police in Jersey City shut down the area of Van Nostrand and Armstrong avenues to investigate a shooting that sent a male to the hospital Sunday evening.
According to police, gunfire rang out in the 300 block of Ocean Avenue at approximately 6:25 p.m., where arriving officers found about a half dozen shell casings during their canvas of the scene.
Police say at around 6:45 p.m., officials at Jersey City Medical Center alerted police offcials that a male entered the emergency department suffering non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
According to authoritities, a gunman arrived and began to fire rounds in the direction of the victim before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
