A Newark Firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries while battling a raging fire that broke out inside a building early Monday morning.
According to fire offcials, heavy flames broke out inside a three-story brick mixed-used building located on the corner of Central and Sussex avenues at approximately 3:07 a.m.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found thick smoke and fire engulfing the second story of the building that houses the Ramen Gami restaurant.
Firefighters began to stretch several lines in their effort to knock down flames that began to race through the cockloft of the building and spread to the three-floor of the sturdy structure.
Crews were able to make it inside the building, but a thorough search indicated no trapped or injured occupants.
Firefighters eventually gained the upper hand after finding the seat of the fire then placed the blaze under control at approximately 3:52 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
