Orange Police took a man into custody after a brief foot pursuit, then charged him with robbery on Friday night.
According to officials, police patrolling the 300 block of Main Street was approached by an unidentified person who reported that a disturbance was occurring inside a convenience store at around 9:15 p.m.
During the investigation, officials say the officer observed an adult male and female run from the business and attempt to enter a vehicle.
Police say officers engaged in pursuit after confronting the male. Police said they tried to arrest the suspect identified as Mr. Desmond Scott, 21, of East Orange, but he aggressively resisted.
According to police, while they were arresting Scott, his alleged girlfriend identified as Ms. Octavia Petigny, 23, exited the vehicle and began to assault an officer. She was placed into custody as well.
The victim told police that Scott reportedly approached him inside the store and demanded his cell phone and wallet after threatening bodily harm. Police said when a second person attempted to intervene and assist the victim, Scott took the good samaritan's backpack then threatened to attack him.
There were no serious injuries reported.
Petigny was arrested for obstruction, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Police say a third person was given a citation for interfering with a police investigation.
