Strong Winds Snap Tree in Newark's Ironbound Section

Newark

Newark Police offcials believe the weather is the reason behind an incident where a portion of a tree snapped on a residential street in the city's Ironbound section earlier Friday.

It happened just before 1 p.m. in the 100 block of Adams Street, where residents said strong winds passed through the area and caused the tree to break then crumble to the ground.

According to police, an occupied van that was parked near the tree suffered some minor damage, but no one inside was injured.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly tweeted the following just before noon:

"It's been a hectic morning out there. While the strongest winds associated with thunderstorms are now pulling away, very gusty winds will continue through the afternoon. Please send along any damage reports if it is safe to do so."
