There were no physical injuries reported in an armed robbery that occurred on a street in Newark's South Ward on Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Bergen and Custer Avenue to investigate reports of an armed robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, police found a woman and her son at that location.
Police say the pair reported that while at the intersection, a black male suspect pulled up in a dark vehicle and produced a weapon.
According to reports, the suspect took unknown personal items from the victim before leaving the scene.
Police say the suspect wore a mask during the robbery.
Newark Police officers were later called to Shabazz High School, where they were observed taking a male student from the building for a possible robbery.
Authorities have not confirmed if the juvenile is responsible for the Bergen Street incident and district officials have not returned requests for comments.
