Police closed all southbound lanes on the Garden State Parkway in Essex County after a dog made its way onto the highway and led officers on a brief pursuit Saturday evening.
It happened at around 6:40 p.m. where police spotted the dog just south of exit 144 in Irvington.
NJ State Police blocked the lanes causing heavy delays that backed up to the Essex Toll Plaza in Bloomfield. Northbound lanes were also at a crawl according to motorists.
Units were able to get the dog off the highway at around 7:15 where they then opened the southbound lanes.
Police say the dog was not injured and it is not clear where it came from.
