New Charges Filed in Fatal Sayreville Crash

Sayreville

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Police Department announced today that a 20-year-old man from the Parlin section of the borough has been charged with aggravated manslaughter for causing a crash that killed his passenger nearly three weeks ago.

Nicholas Gomes was charged on November 25, 2014 with the new count after it was determined that he was intoxicated when he caused the crash that killed Brandon Narleski, 19, also of Parlin, on November 9, 2014.

Bail initially was set at $250,000 for Gomes when he was charged with death by auto following the crash. A judge later reduced bail to $100,000, but the amount was raised to $250,000 when the aggravated manslaughter charge was filed.

An investigation by Officer David Sivilli of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Michael Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office showed that Gomes was traveling south on Route 9 near Bordentown Avenue when the 1997 Mercedes E-420 he was driving struck the concrete highway divider shortly before 10:53 p.m.

Gomes’ front-seat passenger was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:14 p.m.

The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Sivilli of the Sayreville Police Department at (732) 525-5429, or Detective Daniewicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4018.
