There is a homicide investigation underway on a highway in Passaic County as NJ State Police piece together the motive behind a double shooting that killed one person early Saturday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of a disabled vehicle in the vicinity of exit 63 in the westbound lanes of I-80 just before 12:10 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they closed the highway after they located the car in the middle of the road with two people shot at that location.
Police say one of the gunshot victims was rushed to an area hospital suffering bullet wounds while a second person reportedly suffered a medical condition during the incident.
NJ State Police officials have not released what caused the incident or what exactly transpired during the shooting. It is not clear if the victims were shot somewhere else and used the highway as a quicker alternative to getting to the hospital.
