According to police, on January 10, shortly after 10:40 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers who were on walking patrol in the area responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bowers Street and Hancock Avenue in Jersey City.
Upon arrival, the responding officers found that two vehicles were involved in a collision at that intersection with one female sustaining serious bodily injuries.
Officials say during the preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department, it was discovered that a white Infiniti Q50 driven by Joseph Morales, 32, of Jersey City, struck a gold Toyota 4Runner being driven by Arcenilia Encarnacion, 67, of Jersey City.
The investigation revealed that one of the Toyota’s passengers, a 43-year-old female from Jersey City, was ejected from the vehicle upon collision.
Police say she was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where she is currently being treated for her injuries.
The woman remains in critical condition, but she is stable.
There were three additional occupants of the Toyota and all were transported by EMS to JCMC for non-life threatening injuries.
Morales was also transported by EMS to JCMC where he was treated and released.
The collision is being actively investigated by the Regional Collision Investigation
Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
