Man Burned to Death, Woman Killed After Ejecting From Vehicle in Mountainside Crash

Authorities in Mountainside are looking into the cause of a collision that killed a woman early Sunday morning on Route 22.

According to a statement released by Mountainside authorities, at approximately 4:05 am Mountainside Police received multiple calls of a vehicle ignited in flames on Route 22 eastbound near the intersection of Parkway.

Police say a further investigation revealed a car traveling at a high rate of speed left the roadway and struck a tree in the center aisle of Route 22 near the State DOT yard.

The vehicle caught fire upon impact police said.

One female occupant was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, believed to be a male driver, was trapped in the vehicle when it caught fire and burned.

According to police, at the present time, both victims remain unidentified.

Mountainside Police are actively investigating the crash and attempting to identify the victims and make notification to their families.
