Police closed several blocks in the vicinity of Highland and Blomfield avenues as firefighters and PSE&G investigated the official cause of a power line that fell in the North Ward community early Thursday morning.
According to police, several 911 calls brought emergency responders to the scene where they arrived to find downed power lines ignited a car at around midnight.
Firefighters secured the area and waited for PSEG to arrive at the scene to shut the power off before they began extinguishing the blaze.
It appears that the car struck the pole police said.
Crews were able to get the fire under control then check the car for traped and injured occupants, which came back negative.
There were no injuries reported.
