Police in Newark's East Ward are on the search for a brazen thief who lurked around a bank then snatched a bag of money from a customer on Thursday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Investor's Savings Bank located at 255 Lafayette Street just before 2:50 p.m. to investigate reports of a robbery.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim inside the bank who reported to officers that a black male suspect approached and snatched a green bag used for depositing money at the bank.
Police say the suspect sprinted on Lafayette Street towards Van Buren Street and was last tracked in the area of South Street.
The suspect -who wore a black jacket and blue jeans- remains at-large.
Authorities have not disclosed how much money was in the bag -if any- when the suspect snatched it.
Police are advising residents to be aware of their surrounds, especially while completing transactions at banks or check-cashing businesses.
Report suspicious people and activities early and often by calling Newark Police at 973-733-6000.
