Utility crews worked through the night to restore power to hundreds of residents in Newark South Ward after a tree fell on utility lines causing a blackout in the community.
According to officials, the giant tree came crashing down on power lines in the vicinity of Bergen Street and West Runyon Avenue at approximately 5 p.m., causing hundreds to lose electricity in the Clinton Hill section of the city.
PSEG crews arrived at the scene and found the tree on top of a car, according to officials.
While utility crews sporadically returned power to a majority of the residents before midnight, some residents in the area began reporting getting their electric service back at approximately 4:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials believe weather conditions were the cause of the tree to fall.
There were no injuries reported, according to police.
