Linden Police Officer, Civilian Injured in Car Crash

Police in Linden are investgiating a crash that involved a police vehicle on Saturday night.

According to a statement released by Linden Police officials, the collision happened at approximately 10:05 p.m. on when a marked Linden Police vehicle was involved in a severe motor vehicle crash at the intersection of E. Elizabeth Avenue and Bower Street.

Officials say the officer was responding to reports of a fight on the 100 block of N. Wood Ave when it collided with a 2014 Toyota Camry.

According to Linden police, the officer was transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the other vehicle, a 27-year-old female from Elizabeth, was extricated from the car by members of the Linden Fire Department; she was also transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Residents in the area told RLS Media that the police cruiser was entering the intersection with lights and sirens blaring when the explosive collision occurred.

The crash is being investigated by the Union County Police Traffic Enforcement Unit, and anyone with information is asked to contact Ofc. Dalrymple or Rodrigues at (908) 654-9804.
