NJ Transit officials are investigating a train strike that killed a trespasser early Saturday morning in Paterson.
According to a statement released by NJ Transit officials, the incident happened at approximately 2:18 a.m. on the Main Line.
Officials say train #1701 -carrying 35 customers and crew members- left Hoboken at 1:32 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Suffern NY at approximately 2:41 when it struck an adult male trespasser who was on the tracks on the Market Street bridge just west of the station.
The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to NJ Transit officials.
Officials say this was the last train for the night, so there were no delays or cancellations.
No one on the train suffering any physical injuries officials said.
