There were no injuries reported in an early morning building fire in Newark's South Ward on Thursday morning.
The single alarm fire happened just before 5:30 a.m. at the former Seth Boyden Housing Projects located in the 700 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found smoke and fire coming from the three-story brick building, according to officials.
Crews were able to swiftly beat down the blaze before performing a search for trapped and occupants, which came back negative.
Officials believe squatters are to blame for the blaze, but the official cause is under investigation.
