Police in Newark conducted a shots-fired investigation at a location in the city's West Ward on Monday night.
According to police, multiple rounds of gunfire sounded off in the vicinity of Smith Street and South Orange Avenue at approximately 9:40 p.m., sending officers to the scene to investigate.
When police officers arrived, they found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after they searched the area, no victims were found, according to police.
Officials say two ShotSpotter activations alerted police of gunfire and they located several shell casings at the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
