According to NJ State Police, the crash occurred Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:10 pm on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound in the area of milepost 52.7 Mansfield Township, Burlington County.
Officials say, based on the preliminary investigation, a Honda Accord was traveling north in the inner roadway when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck the metal guardrail, re-entered the roadway and was struck by an Acura MDX.
The rear seat passenger of the Honda sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries and the front seat passenger of the Honda sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries, and the front seat passenger of the Acura was not injured.
Identification of the victim is pending family notification.
The entire inner roadway and the left and center lanes of the outer roadway were closed for approximately 5 hours.
